Gloucestershire made the trip to Pembrokeshire for their latest National League Division 3 fixture, eventually slipping to a 20–16 defeat after a competitive weekend that saw three sections end level.
Saturday began with the Women’s B side, who produced a steady performance to secure a 3–3 draw. It was evenly matched throughout, with neither team able to pull away. Lexie Harris delivered Gloucestershire’s standout display, earning Lady of the Match honours with a 15.22 average.
The Men’s B followed and once again there was little to separate the sides, the match finishing 6–6 after twelve hard-fought games. Both teams had their moments, but a draw felt a fair outcome. Nigel Vernall led the scoring for Gloucestershire and took Man of the Match with a 24.44 average.
Sunday’s action opened with the Women’s A fixture, where Gloucestershire continued to compete well and secured a third 3–3 draw of the weekend. Tammy Jones produced a composed performance to earn Lady of the Match after averaging 17.88 in another closely contested match.
That left the Men’s A to decide the overall outcome, and while Gloucestershire remained in the contest, Pembrokeshire produced a strong finish to take the match 8–4 and seal the 20–16 victory. Steve Handley was Gloucestershire’s top performer in the fixture, earning Man of the Match honours with a 24.70 average despite the result.
Although the overall score didn’t go Gloucestershire’s way, taking three drawn sections away from home underlines the competitiveness within the squad, with fine margins ultimately proving decisive.
As this was an away fixture, no photos were taken and awards will be presented at our next home game.
Gloucestershire now look ahead to their next National League Division 3 fixture, welcoming Bedfordshire on March 28th–29th, where they will aim to turn those close performances into a positive result on home soil.
