Gloucestershire were made to work hard in their National League Division 3 fixture against Wirral, eventually slipping to a 20–16 defeat after a challenging two days of darts.

Saturday got underway with the Women’s B side, who showed plenty of fight to come away with a 3–3 draw. It was a tight match throughout, with neither side able to pull clear. Sam Higgins produced a strong performance for Gloucestershire and was deservedly named Lady of the Match after averaging 14.23.

The Men’s B followed and, despite a competitive display, Gloucestershire were edged out 7–5 by a strong Wirral side. There were positives to take, particularly from Andy Hammond, who put in a solid shift to earn Man of the Match honours with a 23.12 average.

Sunday’s action began with the Women’s A, where Gloucestershire faced a tough test and narrowly lost 4–2. The scoreline didn’t quite reflect how competitive the match was at times, with Jane Price standing out once again. Her 20.79 average earned her Lady of the Match in a quality individual performance.

Going into the Men’s A, there was still hope of finishing the weekend on a high, but Wirral proved difficult to break down and took the match 7–5 to secure the overall win. Joe Quiney was Gloucestershire’s standout on the day, producing an excellent display and taking Man of the Match with a 30.83 average.

While the result wasn’t what Gloucestershire were hoping for, there were strong individual performances across the weekend and no shortage of effort in what proved to be a demanding fixture.

Gloucestershire now look ahead to their next National League Division 3 fixture, travelling to Pembrokeshire on February 28th – March 1st, as they aim to bounce back and take positives from the weekend.

Appearances & Awards

There were also milestones to celebrate, with Jane Price reaching 100 appearances for Gloucestershire — a fantastic achievement and a reflection of her long-standing contribution to the county.

Mark Wellington and Wesley Cole both brought up 50 appearances, marking important milestones and underlining their continued commitment to Gloucestershire Darts. Unfortunately Wes couldn’t be there to collect his award.
